The place to return to the job you love
As one of the largest NHS organisations in the country, we have experience facilitating a succession of healthcare professionals to return to registered practice following a career break.
- Nurses
- Midwives
- Allied Health Professionals
- Healthcare Scientists
- Social Workers
A break from practice is when a practitioner’s registered license has lapsed, and they are no longer eligible to practice in the UK. This can be for a lot of reasons, including a career break, raising a family, or time spent working abroad.
Here at the NCA, we have established partnerships with local education providers to help skilled and experienced practitioners to re-enter their profession.
We are all about supporting easier career routes, refreshing skills, and helping you to regain confidence in the job you love.
To do this, we provide:
- Voluntary / paid placements (subject to contract)
- A comprehensive induction
- Regular supervision from an experienced Practice Supervisor and dedicated Preceptorship team
- CPD, service development and innovation opportunities
- Flexible working
- Support to gain employment within the NCA
- Payment of your readmission / first year (or part year) of registration fee (excluding AHPs)
Hear from a recent returnee
“I returned to practice in 2019 after more than 13 years out of the physiotherapy profession. Leaving my NHS career was accidental. I did some extended travelling not long after I completed my junior rotations, and when I came back to the UK, finding a Band 5 role was extremely competitive so I looked elsewhere for employment. I decided to come back to work as a physiotherapist when it felt right. My children were older and there were opportunities for me to regain my HCPC with the Northern Care Alliance. Today, I work as a Specialist Physiotherapist in Stroke Services at Salford. I really love my job and appreciate the impact of my role so much more having had the time away. I feel loyal to the Trust and extremely grateful as they have helped me so much in terms of being able to complete the required training.”
